Making a book

We have been looking at a programme called Scribd (www.scribd.com) through which you can make a virtual book, which I think is a wonderful idea for myself as a short story writer. Next week, I'll publish one of my short stories on this post as a book. Watch this space...

Drafts of a Story

I like writing by hand better than I like typing. Here are some drafts from my notebook.
What do you think of my story so far? (click on the pictures to make them big so you can read them)

Field Trip Souveneir!

Here's a little souveneir I took of my trip to Rock Park... hope no-one saw me take a sneaky cutting!!

I have put it in some soil and I hope it will grow and be a lasting reminder of the workshops and this project. I would give everybody cuttings of it. You never know!

Field Trip

Here are some pictures of 13 Rock Park that we took during the Field trip during the workshop last week. 13 is an unlucky number for some.
I don't know what the house is used for now but in the days of the LadyBird invasion it was a nursing home and I used to work there. Lots of experiences to write about.
Jenn took this photo for me because I was driving the car. She was too shy to take a picture of the whole house because someone was peeping out of the upstairs window wondering what we were up to!

Lady Bird Invasion! The Wirral, 1976.

This is just a small portion of the ladybird outbreak you can see the proportion of ladybirds to the amount of tarmac on the street!
I was heavily pregnant and I had a fondness for green in my clothing back then. Because of this the ladybirds must have thought I was a plant and during this invasion I was covered in them! That is not something you'd forget about easily!
My story is going to be set in the summer heatwave of 1976 which I remember very well. The Lady Bird Invasion or the Lady Bird plague is going to be a part of the story.

deciding?

What ghost to choose ?
The cyclist elderly lady and man or mysterious death?
Rock ferry Tranmere Birkenhead all places with wealth of atmosphere my life and memories.
Do you think i should tell the whole story?
What about the pictures?
It might upset the family.
I think you need to write what you can remember.
that's the trouble it1s hard to seperate fact from fiction, the old lady with the clothes '
The plague of ladybirds in the heatwave of july august '76 what a freak that was.
What about what happened to the cyclist?
Is it time for a break?
I think so yes and a slice of that bread from the deli on church road just along from st' cath's hospital.
Now i could tell a story about the hospital it has so many links to my life.
Tranmere and Church road my goodness there!

All the ghostly houses in Rock Park have a story to tell...

I laughed out loud at the thought of a witch's coven and spells and my friend Marion who had just bought a house in a lovely part of Wirral known as Rock Park, full of large houses and beautiful gardens which had a certain splendour about them.

It was a sunny April day my friend Marion and hubby Peter and me had been busy packing up the old house and unpacking in the new one which was in fact newer than 212 Rock Park villas.

Three large rooms downstairs and a seperate kitchen larder. The upstairs was really grand: two master bedrooms, two guest bedrooms nursery and playroom plus two bathrooms shower room and ensuite. Not to mention an attic, very well established, and as if it couldn't get any better a lovely summerhouse in at the bottomn of a splendidly landscaped garden.

Suddenly the sky darkened and the heavens opened throwing down a merciless April shower - no a deluge. I was in the middle of carrying a tea set and as I ran indoors I slipped and dropped the beautiful blue wedgewood teaset.

Throwing myself down I attempted to gather up the pieces when I heard Marion scream. She screamed again then appeared saying:

'Someone pulled my hair!'

I was a bit unsure how to reply to her.

'This house is haunted,' she gulped.

'Haunted?' I said.

'Yes! I know what I felt.'

An Old Lady Told Me I Had Moved Into A Witch's Coven

An old lady told me I had moved into a witch's coven. 'Good!' I replied, 'I hope they can cast a good luck spell for me.'

This had been one of the most painful days I could remember, even more painful than discovering that Jeff was having an affair.

Twenty four years of dutiful acceptance and should I say complete faithfulness to a man who was what could only be described as a habitual adulterer once would have been enough but to find out he had been at it FOR MOST OF OUR MARRIAGE the pain and humiliation was almost too much to bear. Now here I was, late forties, my two children settled at each end of the country happily I can say as I managed to protect them from too much upset and sadness.

Jeff said it was not my fault I was a good wife and it was all his fault. I did not answer, I just got my best pair of kitchen scissors and cut up all his clothes. There were other things I could have cut off but I stopped at the clothes.

I am now in this nice little cul-de-sac at my nice bungalow which I have bought due to my knee and hip replacement. Osteopsorosis is a ravager of bones and I can't do stairs.

I am looking forward, as my mum used to say, be careful what you wish for but surely a little magic isn't too much to ask. Maybe I'll get a visit from the head witch wouldn't that be interesting?
